I am Bev and my husband is Greg and we’ve been boating together longer than we’ve been married. In 2009, we bought a new 25 foot Scout Abaco which we used in waters around Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod until we moved to Florida in 2018. When we moved to Florida, we had both retired from our careers and we were already talking about a bigger boat, but we figured learning new waters in a new boat wasn’t such a good idea, so we put off the boat purchase and had our Scout shipped to Florida (on a flatbed tractor-trailer).
After several years of looking at boats and endless discussions about how we wanted to use the new boat, we bought a 2013 43′ Tiara Open in 2020. We both love to fish and I wanted to do some cruising so we needed a boat that was built to do both.
We found the Tiara while we were on back on Cape Cod to sell our beach house. I admit that using the proceeds from real estate to buy a boat isn’t the most fiscally responsible decision, but we figured the boat would be our new second home. We thought of naming the Tiara “Second Home” but we thought that sounded pretentious if you didn’t know the backstory so we named her Galene, after the Greek goddess of calm seas.
This blog begins with our journey moving the boat from Cape Cod to Florida, which is our first time on a long cruise and it’s our maiden voyage on Galene.
